Weekly Life Hacks - Part 2

Lifehack = a strategy or technique adopted in order to manage one's time and daily activities in a more efficient way.

Check out my previous blog Weekly Life Hacks - Part 1 for an introduction and 5 more Life Hacks you can try for yourself.

Week 2

1. How can I tell if my battery is used?

Ok, so if you're like me used batteries and unused batteries tend to get mixed up in the same tub/container/area and you can never be too sure if it is a used battery before putting it into the device to find out, the battery is done.

Hacked...

Used batteries bounce and tend to fall down when dropped. New batteries don't bounce as much and tend to stay standing.

Next time, save the effort of having to use your device to check if the battery is used and just drop it instead.

2. Make mistakes in an essay (or anything written) illegible.

Are you sick of making an embarrassing spelling/grammar mistake and no matter how many times you try to cross it out, it's legible?

Fear not, I come with a solution (one I wish I knew when I still completed hand-written essays). Just write other words or random letters over the mistake. Within minutes, it will become completely illegible, saving the embarrassment.

3. Hands-free video watching on your phone.

I know tablets have become very popular and are more common for video watching. But when you're on the go or a tablet is too big what do you turn to? Your smartphone.

However, unless you have a cover that comes with a built in stand, trying to get you phone to sit up on it's own or balance it against something proves to be a struggle.

Why not try this hack instead? Use your sunglasses.. they act as a perfect stand where your phone has no risk of falling down (you'll thank me later).

4. Keep dirty clothes smelling clean when travelling.

Even if you travel regularly or once every blue moon (or somewhere in between) you will have the problem of dirty clothes starting to smell in your travel bag/suitcase. You will keep it all in the same compartment, but when you open it at your next destination, home etc it usually doesn't smell too pretty.

How about keeping a bar of scented soap in the same compartment/bag as your dirty clothes?

Why? Because the soap will keep your clothes smelling clean.

Next time you're travelling, try this hack and you won't be greeted with a bad smell when opening the bag or compartment containing your dirty clothes.

5. DIY Cardboard Speaker.

All you need is:
- a used toilet roll tube,
- a pair of scissors and
- 4 drawing pins.

Method:
1. Take the used toilet roll tube and make a slit in it that is big enough to fit your phone or iPod in.
2. Place the drawing pins on the bottom to make a stand to stop the tube rolling about.
3. Take with you wherever you go.. All you need to do is put your phone/iPod in the slit and play music

So there you have it, a cheap (and from what I hear pretty decent) speaker. However, don't expect it to be as good as a bose speaker ;)

So there you go, another 5 life hacks you are unlikely going to use, but useful to know nonetheless.

Later!
